According to the reports, Altman stated that OpenAI had faced difficulties in obtaining sufficient graphic processing units (GPUs), which has contributed to the delay in the company's short-term plans. This shortage of GPUs not only affects the availability of OpenAI's services but also impacts developers who rely on them. The scarcity has also hampered OpenAI's efforts to enable users to utilize language models like ChatGPT to process data effectively.

The blog post further disclosed that Altman highlighted the various limitations arising from the chip shortage faced by OpenAI. Among these limitations is the token window restriction, which determines the amount of data users can input. Presently, GPT-4 users typically have access to 8,000 tokens, and OpenAI plans to increase it to 32,000. However, expansion to the longer 32,000 tokens context window has experienced delays, with only a few users currently able to utilize this extended capability.

In response to these challenges, OpenAI has put forward several proposals.

• Firstly, they plan to make GPT-4 (the underlying model powering ChatGPT) cheaper and faster.

• Secondly, they aim to enable image processing with GPT-4 for user input and generation.
