In a statement reported by Reuters, Baidu Inc, China's leading search engine provider, declared that its latest AI model, Ernie, has surpassed the widely recognized OpenAI chatbot "ChatGPT" in terms of overall ability scores. Baidu also highlighted Ernie's exceptional performance in various Chinese capabilities, outperforming "GPT-4".
Amidst the worldwide excitement surrounding AI, Baidu, a Beijing-based company, referred to a test conducted by China Science Daily that utilized AGIEval and C-Eval datasets, which are commonly employed benchmarks for evaluating AI model performance. It is worth highlighting that Baidu was the first significant Chinese tech company to introduce an AI product, Ernie Bot, as a competitor to ChatGPT in March. Using Baidu's previous Ernie 3.0 AI model, Ernie Bot has undergone exclusive testing through invitation-only trials for the past three months.
Additionally, Baidu emphasized that its latest model incorporates improved training and inference efficiency, positioning it for quicker and more cost-effective iterations in the coming years. Furthermore, Baidu highlighted that the new model would support external "plugins" to enable its AI to cater to specific scenarios, such as summarizing lengthy texts and generating more accurate responses.
