The soaring popularity of ChatGPT and other generative AI solutions signals the advent of a new paradigm in business and society. This surge in ChatGPT's prominence sparks curiosity about how individuals within the workplace, who have a front-row seat to the AI revolution, perceive this technology's pervasive influence on corporate landscapes.

In a recent Boston Consulting Group (BCG) survey, nearly 13,000 individuals across 18 countries revealed optimistic but mixed perceptions of AI at work. Although optimism increased compared to five years ago, differences between executive leaders and frontline employees emerged.

AI optimism differs between leaders and frontline employees, with 62% of leaders being more optimistic compared to 42% of frontline employees. The availability of training in AI skills is significantly higher for leaders (44%) compared to frontline employees (14%).

Regular users of generative AI understand its capacity to bring about significant changes in the workplace, with both positive and negative implications. Optimism about generative AI is notably higher among regular users (62%) compared to nonusers (36%).

The adoption of AI in organizations has surged, evident in the percentage of respondents reporting its use, which has risen from 22% in 2018 to 50% in 2023. Additionally, 46% of respondents have experimented with generative AI, while 27% use it on a regular basis.

Despite concerns, a majority of 71% of respondents consider the benefits of generative AI outweigh the risks, signaling a notable shift in perspective on government regulation as 79% support AI regulation.
