📰 News: The Wait is Over As OpenAI’s GPT-4 Goes Public

Hey subscriber!

We have thrilling news to share with you: OpenAI has officially released its cutting-edge text-generating model, GPT-4, to the public via its API. Keep reading for all the exciting details! 👇

In an exciting update on July 6, 2023, OpenAI disclosed its intent to provide widespread access to GPT-4, their latest text-generation model, to OpenAI API developers who have demonstrated successful payments. OpenAI will begin onboarding new developers this month and gradually expand availability limits based on the availability of computing resources.

Responding to the overwhelming demand from developers, OpenAI provided insights into its forthcoming roadmap in a blog post. The company acknowledged the requests to access GPT-4 since March and unveiled plans for chat-based models, ensuring versatility across multiple use cases. As you may be aware, GPT-4 surpasses its predecessor, GPT-3.5, by enabling the generation of text (including code) and accepting image and text inputs, achieving remarkable performance on professional and academic benchmarks, and reaching a level comparable to human capabilities.

While the image-understanding functionality is currently not universally available to OpenAI customers, it is important to recognize that GPT-4, like other advanced generative AI models, is not without imperfections. It has been observed that GPT-4 can generate inaccurate information and make errors in reasoning, sometimes with unwarranted confidence. Moreover, GPT-4 does not possess the ability to learn from its own experiences, which makes it less effective in solving challenging problems, such as preventing security vulnerabilities in the code it generates.

As part of their latest update, OpenAI has shared their intention to allow developers to fine-tune GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 Turbo, a text-generating model that supports ChatGPT. This addition, which aligns with the existing feature in other OpenAI text-generating models, grants developers the ability to utilize their own data for fine-tuning. OpenAI aims to introduce this functionality later in the year.
